NRG / Cover Reviews
By Roy Stanier
December ' 99
| 1 | LADY KIM | ROCK ME GENTLY | PRESIDENT |
| A seventies classic rejuvenated by its original artist.Though this time this 140bpm version has been produced and programmed by non other than John Springate of the Klone record label making it very DJ friendly.Due to be released soon this CD comes with a radio mix,Club mix and a bonus track called I Believe which is average though the main credit goes to Rock me gently which I must say makes it pleasant to listen too again in this new format which I am awarding full marks to. | |||
| 2 | KILLER SHADOWS | DON'T YOU WANT ME BABE | ONE WAY RECORDS ITALY |
| Another big song well covered from the Eighties and that’s the song originally sung by the Human League now back in two styles.A dance edit which is nothing like the UK’s style of Dance and a version which the Italians call a harder version which is really a souped up Euro faster mix which is the best one to listen too.Many of you may have already heard this on the Europop 2 CD Album currently available. | |||
| 3 | HANNAH JONES | MORE TO THIS / I'M TELLING YOU |
PLANET |
| Here’s that big voiced Diva back again with a track taken from her forth coming CD album to be released early next year.The track has been produced in a punchy Garage style which has all the qualities to fill a club dance floor especially with her powerful vocal content and as a bonus comes with a version of that Donna Giles classic –And I’m telling you.However I will say that in my opinion Hanna’s rise to fame for me were those splendid mixes of Young Hearts Run Free. | |||
| 4 | DEJAVU / TASMIN | IF I COULD TURN BACK THE HANDS OF TIME | ALMIGHTY |
| Soon to be released comes the expected Definitive mix and the Almighty Anthem mix of this R Kelly massive chart hit which is now programmed for the dance floor. Both versions are loaded with endless strings and percussion making it pleasant to listen to as well as dance to.I must admit that I’m not an R Kelly fan though listening to this version has given it a new lease of lifethough it’s not as strong as their version of ‘my heart will go on’ | |||

| 5 | KELLY MARIE | I NEED A MAN | ACADEMY STREET |
| Released from Kelly’s new CD album entitled ‘Disco Queen’ is a cover of an old Grace Jones track which was played heavily in all of the Gay clubs throughout the country many years ago for those who can remember.The new cd includes a 12” mix of this. and a Millenium mix of Feels like I’m in love together with a 99 mix of this track also These mixes are not available on the CD album. | |||
| 6 | CD ALBUMS | ||
| Amongst the CD album releases for this month are 3
new additions to watch out for, Party Poppers from Klone records
contains 50 power pop anthems in a non stop mix. It’s a double CD
with 5 mixes on each CD called, The dance decade, Dance yourself
dizzy, Pri Madonna,Poptastic,Mowtown Party,Milleneum megamix,Summer
Madness,Love on the dance floor, Indie Viduality,Step back in time
which make good party fun over the festive season. Moviemania is an
exciting album from Almighty as this too is a double CD with 12 disco
tracks from films such as Star Wars, Xanadu,My heart will go on and
lot’s more.The second CD has all of these disco film tracks in a non
stop megamix making another good party album for this time of year.
NRGXS4 has just been released in exactly the same format as the others
in this series though comments arising from it’s release are that
it’s the best in the series to date! |

| 7 | VARIOUS | NRG XS-3 CD ALBUM | ACADEMY STREET |
| Excellent release of a new double CD album in this series. The album contains a really good selection of forthcoming releases from Academy street and covers of songs that you would be supprised to find. One CD contains single tracks and the second CD is a non stop Grant Duff mix. All I can say is that if youve collected the other Two in this series then this Third one is a definite must for youre collection. | |||
| 8 | QUEER AS FOLK CD ALBUM | ALMIGHTY RECORDS | |
| The new cover version album to watch out for during April is the Queer As Folk CD album released in conjunction with the Channel 4 Gay TV series.( need I say that Music Beat will obviously be stocking this !)If you listen carefully to the background music being played when they visit the night clubs in the series you will most certainly recognise some of the Almighty cover versions being played. There will also be a double video release of this series which youll probably find very useful especially if youve missed one or two episodes.This I expect to be Channel Fours own release. | |||

Dance Reviews |
|||
| 1 | KRIANA | THE WEEKEND HAS LANDED | PROMO |
| Certainly different track as it keeps repeating the words ‘ The Milky bars are on me’ which you will find very novel whilst dancing away. The intonation of this male voice throughout the track gives a mass of information which blends well with it’s backing making it fun to dance to.As it’s so good I won’t be supprised if you find this on some forthcoming Ibiza style dance albums soon to be released. | |||
| 2 | COMMUNICATION | MARIO PIN | PROMO |
| Soon to be released and already massive on the dance floor in most clubs is this 136 BPM track with an irritating mobile phone ringing sound throughout the track followed by a female voice saying ‘ will someone answer the phone’.The Yomanda mix is the main mix to go for as It’s got a good punchy backing and when played just like Synth and Strings which can’t fail to get noticed. | |||
| 3 | M3 | BAILAMOS | INFERNO |
| Back to that fast Trance Ibiza sound. A good punchy intro with very soft Guitar work blended in together with a female Spanish voice steadily building into a massive backing track with lots of impact. The Spanish female ( who ever it maybe) does endeavour to sing a little further on . Interesting Dance track should do well. | |||
| 4 | CIRCA | THE SUN IS SHINING | PROMO |
| This is a favourite of mine especially as it contains a rift of that popular Philly sound as the backing appears to sample the OJAYS track The Back Stabbers for those of you who remember that. It’s very DJ friendly and as no supprise to me is an instant floor filler especially as most tracks today are connected with samples from the Seventies.which is just like another release which samples Gloria Gaynor’s I will Survive music which can be found in a forthcoming release called ‘Keep On’ by Channel 9. | |||
| 5 | FEELING IT TOO | THE 3 JAYS | MULTIPLY |
| The 3 Jays are 3 guys from London,Jimmy Lee,Jeff Patterson and Jamie White and now you can see how they formed this name.They first met while Jimmy was doing some building work on Jamies house and as they shared musical interests one thing led to another and hence Feeling it Too was produced.Mixes to choose from are,The original 12” ,Chris & James,Rhythm Masters and the vocal remix. | |||
| 6 | VERACOCHA | CARTE BLANCHE | POSITIVIA |
| Two of Europes biggest producers have got together to produce one of the biggest club records of the year. Vincent De Moor and Ferry Corsten have been responsible for many of clublands bigger moments over the past couple of years with Carte Blanche being the latest. Ferry has been particularly busy of late producing the huge System F, Veracocha has already been available on Import on records and has been played for weeks by Judge Jules and Pete Tongue on Radio 1 | |||
| ONES TO WATCH ! | |||
| New releases are the fabulous mixes of the new Madonna track taken from her album and my favourite, Nothing really Matters, Chers new release Strong Enough which isnt as strong as Believe is now available on 2 CD singles or on 12" single from mid March with Club 69 mixes and in my opinion the best mix which contains more of the song is the Marc Andrews mix, However the Club 69 mix comes up trumps on the new Whitney track, Its not right but its okay! | |||
