Training
Overview
On completion
of the Foundation Year application may be made to one of the Diploma Courses
which are the professional training at the heart of the Institute:
Diploma
in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy leading to an MA validated by Middlesex
University, registration with UKCP and membership of AAPP. Given the part-time
nature of the course it can take a further year beyond the taught component
for students to complete their clinical hours under supervision.
Diploma
in Psychosynthesis Therapeutic Counselling leading to a PG Dip validated
by Middlesex University, registration with UKATC, accreditation with BAC
and membership of AAPP (with UKATC registration). Given the part-time nature
of the course it can take a further year beyond the taught component for
students to complete their clinical hours under supervision.
Diploma
in Applied Psychosynthesis leading to an MA, PG Dip or PG Cert validated
by Middlesex University and membership of AAPP. This is for students who
wish to use the principles of psychosynthesis as a context in their own professional
field.

Methods
Over the years, the
Institute has developed a method of facilitating learning which integrates
the excitement and stimulation of direct experience with the depth and direction
that comes from a thorough understanding of ideas. The major aspects of this
method are:
That
students' own inner process is the guideline around which each course is
designed. As students' inner development unfolds, they are able to relate
meaningfully to the course material.
That
the learning involves the students actively participating in structured
exercises so that they can explore ideas directly in relation to their own
experience and not be merely passive recipients.
That
a method of creative thinking within a group setting has been evolved, which
helps students actively consider how their thoughts and feelings condition
their view of reality. This process allows for theoretical models to be
built together in the group through individuals contributing their own ideas.
This process of learning to think together engenders not only a cooperative
attitude but also an ability to think in general patterns as well as analytically.
That
the training attempts to develop independent judgement in trainees beyond
'right and wrong' and beyond learned patterns of obedience to authority.
Trainees are encouraged to think through the ideas presented to them and
to find their own meaning through written assignments and case presentations
in supervisions and study groups.
